YCS sydney 2020

Who am I???

Hello mate.

Foreigners don't write blogs like this. Take a video. Because that is easier. But I have returned home and it's already been 3 months since YCS. I was embarrassed at the time and I was happy because I was introduced by Konami.

But now, with the advent of the ridiculously strong Corona FTK, I am bored and free. So I was determined to write about YCS that time.

First of all, this is not for Japanese people and those who have already been topped. And not for those who read this ugly English for a long time. It's not that big a deal. It's just about calming down my mind and my thoughts. It's not as rigid as a uni report.

Alright, u are super free guys like me. Let's move on main part.

Let's start with my introduction. My name is Kodai. I was in Australia to study abroad. And then I started Yugioh seriously. It's been three years since I started in 2017. In Japanese saying, there is also "three years on the stone". Seems long and short. The last three years have taught me many things. Oops, it ends with self-introduction. In other words, it takes some experience to win. You don't have to rush.

Actually, I have the results of Australia National Top 4, Oceanic (World championship qualify for oceania) Top 8 in 2019. I got a trophy for both. Most of the regionals are in the top 8. I was also undefeated before top cut at oceanic.
Forgive me because I don't usually brag like this.

What was all that was needed to win?

Now for the main subject.
In this blog, I'll write about what kind of thinking you should take to challenge the game.

I believe there are some important things in winning this game.

1. knowledge.
2. Friendship.
3. Unbeatable thinking.
4. Practice.
5. Communication.
6. Get used to the tournament.

Don't you know what I mean? Let's explain one by one.

1.Knowledge

This is all about card knowledge, rules, formats, etc.

At first, it's always the basics. You can't just remember everything. But you don't even have to look in the dictionary. It's easy except for the rules. Just play. Play with different people and different decks. Is it easy? Are there any decks you are interested in? It's good to actually make it.
However, it took me several months. There are so many types of cards. The rules are more complex. And it increases every time.

What do you do when you learn?

You will learn a lot if you play against each other. First step. Strong people do it every time. Let's also learn combos.

When I was thinking for YCS, I thought about the deck next. The decks that were strong at this time were Orcust, Salamangreat, Sky striker, Thunder dragon, and Pendulum.
Orcust was especially broken. The one with the Sky striker.
I chose it because I wanted to win. To put it the other way around, I had no choice to select it from knowledge and format information.

The results were clear. It's the top 4 of YCS. The first one is Orcust Sky Striker. Choose decks with information.

Many people chose Salamngreat at the time. Extensive search, strength to do the same eevery time, and strong against Handtraps. But the Sky striker engine easily destroyed them. Salamann great had a board limitation.

Ok next part.

2. Friendship

I think this is the most important. Opponents are required for card game competitions. Not only opponents, but also friends who practise together, people who prepare transportation, sellers to get cards, store staff, judges.

It is important to get along with strong people to win.

I'm not good at communication. Japanese. shy. Is it races? Also, my English is bad. You can speak English. I'm envious. Angry lol

Still, you need to have the courage. You don't want to play in a bad mood with your opponents?

Let's improve our grooming. Of course, take a shower, cut your nails, and wear clean clothes. It has a nice clean image.

If you get along with the judges, you can ask about the rules. Fortunately, I made friends with the head judge and the managers. Thanks to that, I had no problems at the tournament.

Practice with strong people will tell you what you didn't notice. It gives more fun. Let's interact more! If you don't understand, ask! !! Card gamers like to be asked. You can tell as much as you like.
Of course, the top people also have pride. You may not talk. Even I feel sick and dent when I lose. But there should be some people who always speak.

I know it's difficult. But if you want to win, talk. And if you make friends, it's fun to play different things with them.

3. Unbeatable thinking.

This is one of the thoughts in my game. Foreigners are very aggressive. But I was thinking passively.

Just think about how to lose.
For example, Handtrap. The biggest reason Orcust lost at the time was Lancea.

It is often said that the OCG player uses only one type of hand trap for some reason, and the TCG player cannot understand it.
Look at the Side deck at this time. Very OCG. This Belle is for system down, and Ogre is for Pendulum and Alterguist. Both are the result of trying to reduce the loss.

I knew with my friends that this deck was vulnerable to the Trap deck and Kinda FTK deck. They are quite few in distribution. However, not taking measures at all was dangerous in order to win this tournament with 15 rounds at YCS. But many Side decks can't be used for them. As a result, there was only one.

Now, let's explain the difference from other decks. These were Instant fusions and Shaddol. There was Nibiru as a new way to lose. However, Instant fusion is the 5th summon. Protected by Dingirusu and sometimes ss helped scrap engine. It stayed on the field even after System down. The next turn, Winda gave me a chance. Side deck shadow fusion could be reversed from Salamangreat's Abyss dweller. They can't beat Winda. I put it in even going first.

This is an unbeatable idea. The only thing you can't lose is victory.

4. Practice

Practice is a place to notice. The longer you do it, the more knowledge you will get. I practiced with my friends almost all day. It's been almost a month. That's an advantage for students because we have a long vacation.

When practicing, think about why you lost and won, not just lost and won.

U only can blame luck in the last. I heard a lot of words such as "Oh i was unlucky" or "U won cz u open ~~~" when the Australians lost. I think only those who practice a lot can say that in the end.  But thanks to the people who don't regret, I could win a lot.

I had a weak hand many times in the 10 rounds. At that time, the opponent had a strong hand for some reason. I understand! You have to reflect on the deck. However, it cannot be decided only once. That is how to practice.

5. Communication

This is during the match. This communication is most important with your opponent. Confirmation of the chain and confirmation of the effect are very important. I'm not good at English but I did my best. You must also pay attention to your opponent's slow play.

It's a bit psychological here, but foreigners have a huge reaction when they look at their hand. Some people give me all their information. "Oh ... this is awful." You can predict the opponent's hand to some extent from the interactions between the players. I practiced a lot at the time, and I was able to guess to some extent by the opponent's first card and the opponent's facial expression.

Australians are very straightforward and easy going. Most people gave me their hand. I read books like how I read their mind. But I only could understand their hands sometimes. These are also available from experience.
For example, most Nibiru counters don't have Nibiru. If you have it, u don't let your opponent know.
I was able to understand which was more important by their eyes movement of watching the set. Not now lol

All the strong people are poker faces. But stronger people control their facial expressions to mislead opponents.

6. Get used to the tournament

This is the last part.

The tournament has a strange atmosphere. Nervous, unfocused, serious mood. This needs to get used to be like a presentation. I got more nervous at YCS than a regular tournament. You have to get used to the weird atmosphere by joining in many tournaments.

Also, the format differs depending on the country or region. You may even experience new decks of popular players.

In my personal opinion, there were many combos in the United States and controls in Australia.

I think I have to go through many tournaments in this regard. Join a lot if you have a Regional nearby.

And look at who's playing what decks and what cards.
